     Hello All,
I am Miles and I live in the Western US. I enjoy keeping ants, isopods, and maybe dermestids in the future. I also like to shoot basketball hoops, play xbox 360, and Talk to the Koolest Kid here.  Grin

Starting Multiple Colonies
Why would anyone wanna start a second colony?Well here are the good ways that you benifet from this:
-In case of emergency you have another colony to fill in and keep.
-You can have one for viewing and another for the breeders.
-You can try new things and make fun houses for them and still have breeders
-Cleaners and pets[Clearners will be discussed later]

Cleaners? No not to clean your kitchen! To clean other bug colonies such as roaches. They eat the dead and some of the food but really help reduce smell. They are also very helpful for skulls as they eat them although i have next to nothing in that area yet.

Hopes this helps you out a bit.

Moving A Big Colony Into A New Setup!
Not really what you expect to see as our first article but i thought that what the heck my colony has grown out of its home now.[I started with four i think it was January 12/2010 and now have about 50 individuals all cramped up in a small baby food jar.I have ceased feeding and will feed them today when i move them into a new home.

Now here is the plan.I'm gonna move them out by hand and place all of them into a tube with cotton on one end and the other wide open.Add in some food.Next i'll place into a kritter keeper[haven't decided on this yet may just move them into a tube and make bigger tubes as the colony grows not to sure.] To help make your colonies move faster add the food into the new setup and then make it darker. Its almost 100% possible they will move in less then 24 hours if not within the hour. They love the darkness and prefer it like 100% more then light.Anyway i'll surely post how this goes and maybe make a journal about my colony here.Toodles!
